The Constructing Meaning (CM) Science Module is built on the premise that language should be supported and developed in all content areas throughout the day and that CM provides the process and tools for weaving language instruction into content-area teaching. By no means does this integrated approach to language development replace the need for dedicated, explicit ELD instruction, but it is a necessary component of a comprehensive approach to English learner instruction. The lesson models how to support English learners in the language they will need to demonstrate understanding and application of the Next Generation Science Standards and the CCSS Literacy Standards, and by doing so, addresses the Next Generation ELD Standards.
